Rainout Policy & Weather Updates

SCCYSA makes every effort to provide a safe and positive soccer experience for players, coaches, referees, and families. Because soccer is an outdoor sport, weather and field conditions may impact practices, games, and other scheduled activities throughout the season.

The safety of our players, referees, coaches, spectators, and volunteers is always the top priority when decisions are made regarding field use, delays, cancellations, or schedule changes.

How Rainout Decisions Are Made

SCCYSA monitors weather forecasts, field conditions, safety concerns, and other factors when determining whether games or activities can proceed as scheduled.

A decision may be made to delay, cancel, or close fields due to:

  • Severe weather
  • Lightning or thunder
  • Heavy rain
  • Standing water or unsafe field conditions
  • Poor visibility
  • Extreme heat or cold
  • Field damage concerns
  • Other safety-related conditions

Whenever possible, SCCYSA works to make and communicate weather-related decisions in a timely manner. However, weather conditions can change quickly, and updates may be made throughout the day as new information becomes available.

Rainout Line Is the Official Source

Rainout Line is the official and most accurate source for SCCYSA field status and weather-related updates.

Families should always check Rainout Line before leaving for the fields, especially on days when weather may impact scheduled activities.

SCCYSA does its best to also share updates through social media and other communication channels when possible. However, social media posts may not always be immediate, complete, or updated as quickly as Rainout Line.

Rainout Line should be considered the true source of information for field status, game delays, and cancellations.

How to Use Rainout Line

Families can check SCCYSA field and game status through Rainout Line in the following ways:

  • Download the mobile app on GooglePlay or the AppStore
  • Search for St. Charles County Youth Soccer Association
  • Subscribe to receive alerts, if available
  • Check the status before leaving for practices or games

Rainout Line allows families to view current field conditions and updates by location or field. Statuses may include open, closed, delayed, canceled, or updated instructions depending on the situation.

Check Before You Go

Because conditions can change throughout the day, families are encouraged to check Rainout Line:

  • Before leaving home
  • Before heading to the fields after a delay
  • Between games, if multiple games are scheduled
  • Any time weather conditions appear questionable

Even if the weather looks clear at your home, field conditions may be different at the soccer complex. Rainout Line provides the most current information available for SCCYSA activities.

Social Media Updates

SCCYSA understands that many families follow league updates on social media, and we do our best to post important weather-related information there when time and staffing allow.

However, social media should be treated as a helpful reminder, not the official source.

For the most accurate and up-to-date information, always check Rainout Line.

Lightning and Severe Weather

If lightning, thunder, or severe weather occurs while activities are underway, SCCYSA may suspend or cancel play in accordance with safety guidelines and field conditions.

Players, coaches, referees, and spectators should follow instructions from league officials, referees, field marshals, coaches, or other designated personnel.

If play is suspended, everyone should move to a safe location immediately and remain there until further instructions are provided.

Reschedules and Makeup Games

When games are canceled due to weather or field conditions, SCCYSA will review available options based on field availability, referee availability, schedule constraints, and timing within the season.

While SCCYSA will make reasonable efforts to reschedule games when possible, makeup games are not guaranteed.

Additional information about reschedules, makeup games, or schedule changes will be shared through official SCCYSA communications when available.

Thank You for Your Patience

Weather-related decisions are not always easy, and conditions can change quickly. SCCYSA appreciates the patience and understanding of our players, families, coaches, referees, and volunteers as we work to make the safest and best decisions possible for our soccer community.
