What Is the Rule Matrix?
The SCCYSA Rule Matrix is a quick-reference guide that outlines the basic game rules and playing requirements for each age division. It helps coaches, referees, parents, and players understand how the game is structured at each level, from U4/U5 through High School.
Because soccer rules and field requirements change as players get older, the Rule Matrix provides an easy way to compare divisions and understand what applies to each age group.
Why It Matters
The Rule Matrix helps SCCYSA provide a consistent, fair, and age-appropriate playing experience for all participants.
It is designed to help:
- Coaches understand the rules for their team’s division
- Referees apply the correct rules during games
- Parents better understand what to expect at each age level
- Players learn the game in a developmentally appropriate way
- Teams stay aligned with SCCYSA league standards
How to Use the Rule Matrix
To use the Rule Matrix, find your player’s age group across the top of the chart. Then, review the corresponding column to see the rules and requirements for that division.
Please note that rules may vary by age division and are designed to support player development, safety, and fair play throughout the season.
