What Is the Soccer Age Matrix?
The soccer age matrix is a chart used to determine which age group a player belongs to for a specific soccer season. Instead of using a player’s school grade, the age matrix is based on the player’s birth year.
This helps keep teams organized consistently and ensures players are placed in the correct age division for league play.
For example, players may be grouped into divisions such as U6, U8, U10, U12, U14, and so on. The “U” stands for “Under,” meaning the player must be under that age level during the designated soccer year.
Why It Matters
The age matrix helps SCCYSA:
- Place players in the correct age division
- Create balanced and age-appropriate teams
- Follow youth soccer registration guidelines
- Provide a fair and consistent playing experience for all participants
How to Use the Age Matrix
To find your player’s age group, locate your child’s birth year on the current season’s age matrix (see below). That birth year will correspond with the division your player should register for.
Please note that age groups may not always match your child’s school grade. Since soccer divisions are based on birth year, players in the same grade may occasionally fall into different age groups.
Questions About Placement?
If you are unsure which division your child should register for, please review the current MYSA age matrix or contact SCCYSA for assistance before completing registration.
